BSNL subscribers danced to its ringtone, added more than 29 lakh customers in July; Jio, Airtel, Vi on silent mode

In July, BSNL has changed the whole game in terms of adding subscribers. Till now Jio and Bharti Airtel were getting most of the subscriber base, but in July BSNL did something that no one had expected.

TRAI has released the data of telecom companies for the month of July, according to which BSNL added 29.3 lakh new subscribers in July. Whereas other telecom companies could not add even a single new subscriber, on the contrary, they lost lakhs of subscribers.

In July, Reliance Jio lost 7.58 lakh subscribers and Bharti Airtel lost 16.9 lakh subscribers. While Vodafone-Idea (Vi) lost 14.1 lakh subscribers.

Looking at the figures, it is clear that a large share of subscribers of Bharti Airtel, Jio and Vodafone-Idea has shifted towards BSNL. According to TRAI, in July 2024, 1.36 crore subscribers have applied for mobile number portability.

TRAI said in a statement that the number of mobile users has increased from 940.75 million at the end of June to 946.19 million at the end of July. A monthly growth rate of 0.58% has been observed in this.

What is the reason behind the increase in BSNL subscribers?

The reason behind the growth in BSNL subscribers is that it has announced the launch of 4G services. It had announced its 4G service in July itself. This month itself it had introduced new 4G recharge plans. In these, the company had announced plans ranging from Rs 118 to Rs 2,399.

Why did the customers of other companies decrease?

Apart from this, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea had increased the tariff in July itself. Jio’s new rates came into effect from July 3. Jio’s base plan which was Rs 155 till now was increased to Rs 189. Jio had increased the rates of a total of 17 prepaid and 2 postpaid plans.

Airtel’s new tariffs were also implemented from July 3. Airtel had increased the tariffs of unlimited voice plans, data plans and postpaid plans by 10-20%. Vodafone-Idea had also increased its tariffs. There was an increase of 10-21% for different plans. This increase was implemented from July 4.

TRAI said in a statement that the total number of broadband subscribers increased to 94.61 crores at the end of July. It was 94.07 crores at the end of June. A monthly growth of 0.58% was seen in this.
