Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat recently visited the exhibition of souvenirs received by the Prime Minister at the National Gallery of Modern Art. In a press conference, he said that the base price for the auction of these gifts is decided by a government committee.

The items whose base price has been kept the highest include the badminton rackets of Paralympic bronze medalists Nitya Shri Sivan and Sukant Kadam, as well as the ‘discus’ of silver medalist Yogesh Khatunia. Their base price has been fixed at around Rs 5.50 lakh.

While talking to the media, the Culture Minister said that PM Modi has started a new tradition of auctioning gifts. He has been doing this even as the Chief Minister. PM Modi has told in his post that the money received from the auction is used in the Namami Gange project. This money is used to clean the Ganga river. It is also used for other works.

According to the Ministry of Culture, a part of the auction pays tribute to the brave warriors and freedom fighters of India and celebrates the glorious chapters of the country’s history.
